Obstructive Sleep Apnea Infants!

Gabrielle

My child was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea this week. She is 8.5 months actual/7 months corrected (34 weeker). We had a sleep study done when we mentioned to her pulmonologist that she snores. The results were shocking. She pauses her breathing 6.5 times an HOUR. She is considered on the higher end of “moderate”. Her lowest O2 stat was 83% during the night. She pauses her breathing/oxygen dropped a total of 43 times that night. We wake up with her about 15+ times a night (that’s an average night) because waking up gasping scares her (I didn’t know that was why she kept waking up until now) and all these puzzle pieces of things I’ve been noticing are now coming together. We have been referred to an ENT who will evaluate her adenoids as that’s the most likely reason. For the mean time until the appointment we are on a nasal steroid spray before bed. I am horrified I have to use a steroid nasal spray on her so young. The sleep doctor said they will either remove the adenoids or tell us she has to wait to grow into them. Has anyone had experience with this? I am 100% pro removal ASAP. I don’t want her on steroids long term and I also don’t want her to have to wait to “outgrow” not breathing in the middle of the night. She was also diagnosed with restless leg syndrome but they said that most likely an iron thing and she just needs an additional supplement (waiting on blood work to confirm) along with the iron fortified oatmeal that’s in all of her bottles. Any help with this is greatly appreciated! All the things I’ve read don’t have much on infants with OSA just children 2+. She sleeps poorly, and so do we. Shes exhausted ALL the time. I feel so badly for her and will worry non stop if they they want her to “outgrow” it.
