Mirena stopping your period?

I am getting the mirena iud to reduce my period flow and cramps, I have horrible periods that make me iron deficient, throw up from cramps and make me faint, for the people who have had the mirena for a while (not just inserted but after your period adjusts) have your periods stopped or been lighter? Is cramping better? The only reason I am getting a iud is just for period relief.

Hey! I got my mirena inserted last august for the same reason (had debilitating cramps, threw up, the whole shabang). For a couple of months (2-3) after that I spotted everyday with no pain. After that, I had a spotted for a week once every two months (maybe very mild period cramps on the first day). And then in Feb/March (so about 6-7 months after insertion) my period had stopped all together. So totally worth it!

My cramping is MUCH lighter now. My right ovary I call my “mean ovary” because when it was that ovaries month I had hellish periods, like cold sweats and nausea sort of thing. After I got the Mirena I’ve just had kinda uncomfortable cramps but very very mild. I’ve had it for about 6 months and my periods are starting to stop(:
