At what age should you tell your kids about sex?

I was molested at age four so I always knew about it. I always wondered what the “appropriate” age should be to have the birds and the bees talk bc I never was innocent in that sense and so I never got the talk. Most people I know’s parents didn’t tell them about sex until certain ages and I always notice a lot of little kids don’t know anything about sex or even what sex is and their parents sometimes seem so overjoyed about that lol. So what age would you tell your kids about sex and all about it like protection, consent, etc? Or would you even tell them at all 😶?

my parents told me at around 8. I think that was reasonable, because I found out more details through friends very soon after. better from you then kids that don't know what they're talking about.

As someone who's been sexually assaulted at age of 9, I feel like we should let our kids know about this kinda stuff. I didn't know anything about sex or Periods until I was 12 or 13!? And I wouldn't even know if my cousins (I repeat my Cousins) wouldn't tell me about it! Like why do we have to make such a big deal about it! I don't understand! Sex is normal, Period is normal! 
One day when I have kids, I will sit down with them and have the talk. Cuz it's something they should know!

Y'all please teach your kids the proper names of private parts when they are old enough to understand the difference between boys and girls. I work for CPS and kids will call their vaginas cookies or goose and penis worm or the latest that I've heard, dingle doodle. And please for the love of all that is Holy, teach your kids about sex. You don't have to go into gory details, but please at least explain that a penis in a vagina or penis in an anus is sex. 9 or 10 is a good age I think, but don't wait until after puberty when kids at school are giving them bad information.

i would start the conversation with a child around age 5 and build upon it as they got older. i would definitely start with talking to them about inappropriate touching and stranger danger. 
having the conversation(s) with your kid about sex is beneficial to the both of you. your kid will learn about sex from other kids at school. those kids don’t quite know what they’re talking about, and therefore your kid could get some wild misinformation. 
teaching your kid about sex, protection, consent, sexuality, periods/puberty etc... will make them more comfortable with you as their parent when they need you. if your child was struggling (maybe with a shitty boyfriend/girlfriend, molestation by a family member, or even average puberty troubles) wouldn’t you want them to be able to confide in you instead of suffering by themselves?

Of course tell them. Why would you not? I think it should be a progressive conversation that you build upon as they age. I think you should start young with the very basics and slowly build from there. That way you are coming back to the topic often and so it’s more familiar and comfortable for them to discuss with you.

I would tell my kids when they were 8 to 9 because that’s when my parents told me and it was a good age for me.
