Does walking work?

I posted earlier that at my 38 week appointment today I was already 4cm dilated, 80% effaced and at -2 station. My OB said to start doing things like walking, bouncing on yoga ball, walking up/down stairs,etc. Once I got home from the appointment I’ve started trying some of those things but now I’m just tired, sweaty and frustrated. Am I supposed to feel contractions immediately if it worked? Or could I still be close to labor just not contracting yet?
