Period/bipolar

Carlisha

At the age of 13 my grandmother died that was raising me, and I was sent to foster care. She didn’t talk to me about the birds and the bees, so I didn’t know what to expect in my teenage years. After a couple of months being in foster care, I started bleeding and I didn’t know why. I was very frighten, so I chose to hide it from my foster mom, by using tissue so that I wouldn’t ruin my clothes. I also noticed that during my “bleeding spells” I would become very moody, to the point of suicidal thoughts, but still was too afraid to say anything. After my foster mother passed I was sent to a group home, after a month of being there I was diagnosed with depression and bipolar. I was able to get much needed information on a woman’s cycle as well as getting prescribed something that would help with my mood swings.

It is a day to day struggle that I am still trying to manage, but it’s definitely hard dealing with Mother Nature and extreme mood swings at the same time. I now have 4 beautiful children and their ALL GIRLS!!! I told myself that my girls would always be able to come to me with any questions that they may have about ANYTHING and not be embarrassed. I’m glad that I was able to get help and the right information that I needed before it was too late.
