should i just go ahead and remove the piercing? i dont want this to get any worse and its so embarassing to be at work and have this swollen bump on my lip. ive been using neosporin and tree tea oil. but ive only been using tree tea for a few days. help?

Literally only use saline rinse and cleaner. No oils, no neosporin. My artist would kill me if I used anything else. Stick with the basics. Salt water rinse the inside saline on a q tip for the outside.

Honestly, most piercers recommend that you don’t take out a piercing when infected. It could make it worse and cause scarring. I had an issue with my helix, nose and my daith. My helix went away on its own, but I had to go back to my piercer for my daith, she put in a bigger ring and the swelling/infection went away within a couple of weeks. Try not to get makeup in it if you wear makeup, and avoid touching it. I was also told that tea tree oil can be harsh on a new piercing.

When my nose looked like that I mashed up sea salt, baby aspirin & added just enough drops of clean water to make it a paste, rubbed it on overnight and in the morning it was gone I did this for like two nights and it was completely gone! I have a tiny scar from me messing with it but it really worked for me.

you should leave it in at least until the infection is gone. then once it is you can decide whether or not you want to take it out. ive used this method on my nose ring and on my helix, both of which got bumps. a good way to heal it is to use a sea salt solution. mix together about a half teaspoon of sea salt with hot water. you can add tea tree oil if you like, but it is very drying. I only use 2 drops. soak a cotton ball or rag in the solution and hold it over your piercing until the water gets cold, then change it out and repeat until you're out of solution. you'll probably see pus and maybe a little blood come out if it's infected. do the soaks every night for a week or so, it should help. good luck!

No neosporin. The would needs to breathe, neosporin seals it. Sea salt, tea tree oil soaks on the piercing & take an ibuprofen if you can around the clock when you are awake.
Note: double check the tea tree oil you buy that it’s just the essential oil. Cheaper manufacturers like to put it in jojoba oil which will make it worse. Only a few drops per soak, do not apply directly, dilute with salt water.

Don’t take it out until it’s healed. Most importantly stop touching it unless you’re cleaning it and you must wash your hands before touching it. Clean it with a non iodine sea salt and warm water mixture. Also try soaking a cotton ball in the mixture and then sitting it on the piercing for 5 minutes. Tea tree oil helps a lot too but it’s very potent so dilute it with some water. You can also add some drops of tea tree oil into your salt water mixture. Tea tree oil works by drying the area out so only apply it on the actual bump and not inside the actual piercing hole. Neosporin isn’t going to help because it’s going to keep the bump moist and block it from draining or drying out the infection. All these tips helped me get rid of my bump on my nose piercing.

Girl I have 20 piercings and have dealt with keloids on a couple cartilage piercings! They’re annoying but you can get rid of them. I’ve been able to get rid of the ones I’ve ever had from a piercing. So my advice is don’t take it out or the infection will remain trapped under the skin. What I would recommend is soaking a q tip in sea salt mixed in hot water to clean the area and then use tea tree oil when finished. Don’t use alcohol because it will terribly dry out the wound and don’t use Neosporin or any salve because it will allow bacteria to stick to the wound. Hope this helps! It’s worked like a charm every time for me :)
