ParaGard IUD... experience??

Question

How did your experience go with the ParaGard non hormonal iud? Any negatives? I’m 5 weeks postpartum and looking into my options. My body does not handle hormones well so I refuse to go back to the pill and worry the hormonal iuds would cause my same issues I had with the pill.

I love mine. I have only experienced 3 periods since getting it placed after I had my daughter. My doctor recommended it to me since I never got cramps and always had a lighter shorter period than most. I do experience cramping really bad one day during my period and heavier bleeding for the first 2 days and I bleed for about 4-5 days. I wouldn’t recommend it if you normally have a heavier period and/or really bad cramping since it can make it worse than it is normally. Absolutely love it since it’s not throwing my hormones off and plus it lasts for up to 10 years!

I loved mine too!! Only side effect I had was heavier cramping but honestly anything is worth not having the hormones. I say go for it!

I had a heavy period before getting paragard but was afraid to do hormonal bc because of other health issues. It made my periods very long and painful. 10-14 days long, and they impacted my lifestyle (I would avoid certain activities or traveling while I was on my period). When I had the paragard for 5 years I started using the diva cup because of the heavy bleeding, because I was tired of bleeding through tampons in 2 hours into my clothes. I checked with my obgyn and she said it was okay to use the diva cup and have the IUD. 2 months later my IUD came out when I removed my diva cup. As you may know you can get pregnant immediately after having the IUD removed so we were abstinent until I could get alternate bc on board. I got a nexplanon and was much happier with that. Had it removed in March to begin TTC and then got pregnant on the first cycle in April.

I loved mine! I got it for the same reasons- extra hormones mixing with my natural body just weren’t working for me.  I had my paraguard for 9 years and will get another after I have my baby. (I did not get pregnant with the iud in).
