Advice: Buying vs renting

I know this is not TTC topic but.... My bf and I are currently living with his dad. We are in our early 20s and do not have a child but are wanting to have one fairly soon. But besides the point, I am wanting to get out on our own. I suggested renting an apartment, but he doesn’t want to “throw money away on renting.” He suggested waiting and save up money to buy a house, but with buying comes a lot more responsibility and will take longer. His dad lives so far out of town where you can’t even have an internet connection and I also take college classes so I am wanting to move closer to town and be on our own soon. What do y’all think?
