Does believing in something (religion) /someone make people happier ?

I'm happier not believing. Some are happier believing. When I did believe it was more of "why does God let this happen" now it's "shit happens, get over it".

I think of religion very highly because of how powerful it is and how much is can effect your life. You either believe or you don’t believe in something but it’s your choice and I think everyone should respect that because if you went through something traumatic and you started believing in God it can actually help you get over your traumatic event. I personally don’t believe in God but I wouldn’t bash anyone for believing because I have my own beliefs and that’s my right

It can give someone “purpose” in life, yes. Like religion for example, can give someone to look forward to an actual afterlife instead of aimlessly wondering what happens after we die. It can also give people structure in areas of their life that other things can’t. 
I’m not super religious myself, but I find religion to be interesting and can be a beautiful thing.
