What happens when you go to the doctor about depression

Say if I went to a doctor because I thought I was depressed, how would it go? What would they ask me / what would they do? (I live in the UK)

Answer

You shouldn't just go to a regular doctor if you think you're depressed. You need to find a psychologist to make an appointment with. Regular doctors disregard mental illness a lot because that's not their specialty. A psychologist will want to have a few sessions with you just talking and getting to know your issues before diagnosing you. Then if they think you need medication they will send you to a psychiatrist. If they don't think you need medication they will probably just continue verbal therapy.
