FTM, GD, 2 weeks early

Les

Monday 7/16 At 37w1d I went to work to find I had a particularly acute unit (inpatient psych) and was NOT feeling it. I went home early and decided I wouldn't be back for my shift the next day and heck, why not start my leave?! My induction date was going to be finalized on the 18th anyway, they wanted her out by 38 weeks due to requiring Merformin for my fasting glucose. Well it's a good thing I listened to my body because the next am I sat up in bed and my water broke! You don't realize how much there is until you still have a towel between your legs the next day! Don't bother brining comfy slippers or anything you sont want body fluids on lol. Anyway I called my Dr, took a shower, and headed to the hospital. I wasn't dilated but it was definitely my water (duh!) so they kept me. I didn't progress and required 5 doses of Cytotec...even then I was only a 1! 11pm Wednesday I begged for an epidural before they started Pitocin. FYI the whole "baby will be out within 24hr of water rupture" is not true. They monitor for fever and distress but that's about it. While waiting for epidural I got a dose of Stadol which made me feel super buzzed and trippy and not care about contractions. Epidural terrified me and sobered me right up! FYI make sure your call light is within reach before you're incapacitated feeling like Lieutenant Dan and can't reach it. That was terrifying. Anyway Pitocin started at 11p, they said I'd be checked in am for dilation... Thursday morning came (no sleep since Monday night) and still only a 1!!!! C section was scheduled for 12noon. I have never had surgery or even stayed the night st a hospital before Tuesday, so I was nervous but relieved my baby would be arriving. C section went well, worst part was getting out of bed at 10p that night...and struggling with breast feeding initially...but baby is healthy and I couldn't be happier with my new life. Meet Genevieve Mae, 7lbs 3oz, named after my late mother (we were discharged home on the anniversary of my mother's death)<3 I found that beautifully symbolic <3 Gen is now a week and alI ready back to birth weight.
