Gripe water??

Question

My son is 17 days old and EBF. hes gaining weight and has a lot of wet/dirty diapers a day. lately hes been crying a lot, scrunching his face, arching his back and turning red. I feel like hes in pain, although hes passing gas just fine. I asked my dr about reflux or colic and he said to let him know in a week if it continues, and said he doesn't believe in gripe water, but I'm wondering if it might help. Anyone have any insight or advice?

we got childlife organic gripe water and its helped a lot. we also start our kiddos on probiotics at 2 weeks(klaire labs brand). our son was fussy starting at 2weeks and the probiotics really helped but he would still get fussy at the bewitching hour which he outgrew. we tried regular gripe water and it did nothing. with our daughter we were proactive with the probiotic and then at a month she started getting fussy during the bewitching hour so we tried this new gripe water and its actually helped a lot. we just give her 1 ml in an ounce of breastmilk

Do you have an imbalance? That might be the cause. Google foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. I made my own gripe Water (my pedi recommended it), it’s basically ginger, chamomile, fennel and clove. I boil it and then keep it in the fridge for about a week. I have 10 week old twins that were a bit fussy because I had an imbalance.

I used gripe water on occasions but I found infants friend was a lot better for relieving my baby’s belly aches. :)
It would hurt to give him a ml or two just to see if it works. But use it when your baby actually seems as though they need it, not everyday kind of thing.

Have it mine at 3 weeks old, says it’s not for before a month old but I just halved the dose, sometimes it helps straight away, others it doesn’t. It’s alcohol and sugar free, years ago it wasn’t so I guess if you have an older doctor they might not realise that. I tried Infacol and I’m sure it clogged him up, so don’t use that anymore.
