Strep B test?

I read an article that says to make sure your doctor tests you for strep b.  It’s a common complication after birth?  Anyone heard of this?  Is it true?

25% of people have group b strep. It doesn’t hurt you but if baby comes in contact with the bacteria it can cause illness or death. They’ll test you at 36 weeks and there will be extra steps to take during labor which include IV antibiotics. They’ll swab your vagina and anus.

I think it’s something like 40% of women have group be strep.  It normally does not affect the woman at all, but we are often just carriers for the virus.   I guess the bacteria is held in the vagina and can transfer to baby.  It makes baby sick, but not us.  They test around 36-37 weeks and give you an antibiotic during labor.

I was positive with my son, I just had antibiotics during labor, he was perfectly healthy

In Canada it’s routine to do a swab around 36 weeks. It’s a common bacteria that people might have but can cause issues for baby if you pass it on. If you test positive, they just give you antibiotics during labour. It’s nothing really to worry/stress about 😊

I have it and I've been told its really common. Apparently when we go into labor they give us antibiotics until delivery. That's all I know. Go figure.

It depends on what country you live in. The US routinely tests, but others don’t and just monitor you and baby after birth (which would happen anyway in the US)....the chances if complications are very low, so don’t be nervous if you do test positive.
