What is CHIP?

Question

I applied for Medicaid for my daughter but instead got approved for CHIP? 
What exactly is it? 
The mail I received didn’t have any details to what it is or how much I pay.. not even and insurance card. I’ve googled it but came to no certain conclusion.. ⁉️

I have it to cover my kids. It's more similar to regular insurance, you pay a quarterly premium and co-pays. It's not free like Medicaid, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper. One issue I have found with it is depending on which plan you choose the doctor options are limited. You can always call DWS and get more clarification

Children’s Health Insurance Program. The way it works varies by state, but routine visits are generally covered (though some states might have you pay a small copay). Again, every state is different in what, if anything, they ask you to pay, but the federal law that creates CHIP says you can’t be made to pay more than 5% of your income in monthly premiums.

Others answered this well. We have it even though we both have full time jobs. Our insurance plans sky rocket if we add anyone to them so CHIP it was. We make $70,000 combined and pay $1200 a year for CHIP. No deductible, no copay, and even his Zantac is free. I’m very happy we had this option. We even had a choice of four different insurance companies. The one offered through my work is the same cost this way as we pay at market cost but I have a very expensive insurance at work. It allowed us to shop around when work didn’t.
