What is it like to become a mom?

Question

What did it feel like to see your baby's face for the first time and to see your husband/father of your child meet their child? 
My husband and I are expecting our first! 🤗 4 weeks and 4 days and OVER THE MOON!

It was really surreal. I felt like I was a watching a movie and it was in slow motion. The very first thought I had was that it didn’t look like my baby, my son was huge over 9 pounds with a ton of hair and a big chubby face. Then I just wanted him on my chest. I was focusing so much on the fact that I had just pushed a human out of me I didn’t really pay attention to my husband 😂 Got a little distracted when the placenta was coming out and getting my bleeding to stop, but then I looked over and my husband is holding him and I’ll always have that picture in my head. To sum it up, it felt like the entire world stopped spinning and I suddenly viewed everything differently. Being a mom is incredible. It’s tiring but incredible 😂

Surreal.  Very much an out of body experience.  She felt so heavy, and slimy, and hot.  My first thought was 'whoa! She's big!'  Then she opened her eyes and it was like all the little kicks and hiccups and flips and little moments where she had made her presence known when inside me were pressed together and I realized that this stranger's face that I was looking into had done all that.  Apparently I spent a lot of time crying and saying she was beautiful, but I feel that that precious moment was kinda fractured for me.  I tore a lot and was hemorrhaging when she came out - the docs were on it, no problem, there is like a fleet of help there when you are actually pushing out - so they were stitching me, and telling me to stop moving so much, and asking if I would give permission for a local, and if they could give me a drug to help stop the bleeding, and if they could weigh her.  It was just a lot of questions and I just wanted to try to get her to nurse and my husband was trying to help me, but neither of us knew what we were doing.
  AFTER though, when we were settled in the postpartum room I asked one of the nurses to hand her to me - I couldn't move to reach for her - and I just spent time looking at her, and it was early gray morning and quiet.  My husband was sleeping for the first time in days on a little cot next to us, and I just stared at her sleeping face and memorized it.
  Don't feel bad if it's not instant love.  I wouldn't even describe mine that way, though I get misty eyed thinking about it now because in my memory that isn't a stranger's face, but my Lucy's.

Love... the purest love you can ever imagine! It was so overwhelming that I was just crying and staring at my little miracle... and the insane part is that it just keeps growing every day!

I pushed him out, they put him on me...and I looked down and thought, "that's not mine!" for some weird reason. Like clearly he was mine but it didnt click right away. I didnt get the "magic" that a lot of people do, I was just glad that part was over.

It’s magic. But don’t be shocked if it isn’t magic. It’s amazing meeting your baby and seeing your partner learn to parent. However, it’s also an incredibly overwhelming experience. Birth is HARD and you will likely be super tired (and maybe hungry). It’s difficult to take everything in when so much is happening.
My husband is an amazing father. My daughter is the light of my life.

I will start out by saying that I LOVE being a mom. It is amazing. I love my kids more than I ever thought possible. They bring me so much joy and make me smile. Of course it's hard, and tiring, but it's totally worth it!
That being said, I did not have that magic moment at the birth of my first. I had a long labor, got an infection, and ended up with an emergency c-section. I was so drugged up, I didn't know what was happening. Because I had an infection, they took my baby to the NICU right away before I even got to see him. I didn't get to see him or hold him until about 7 hours later. We were separated for the first couple of days and got a late start with breastfeeding and bonding. My husband took a picture of my son in the NICU to show me and, I will be honest, it was not love at first sight. I said, "That's our baby?"  It was a hard adjustment when we got home from the hospital. I cried every day for the first 3 weeks. I finally opened up to my husband about how I used the way the birth went and that I was having trouble bonding with the baby. He admitted that he thought the birth sucked too and that made me feel better. I also read a lot of stories online of other moms who didn't feel that instant love for their babies and it made me feel better that I wasn't alone. 
My second birth with my daughter was everything I wanted my first to be. I had a VBAC, so I was able to experience a vaginal birth. I got to reach down and feel her head as she was crowning, I got to do immediate skin to skin and breastfeeding, and delayed cord clamping. It was amazing! We waited to find out the gender, like with our first, and I finally got to enjoy the moment when they said, "It's a girl!"  I was so amazed at how much easier it was to bond with her this time around. I think the birth had something to do with that, but I also think it had to do somewhat with being a mom already. I knew what to expect and I was looking forward to experiencing everything again.

I personally did not cry with either. I think I was happy that it was over and I just wanted my babies cleaned so I could hold them and study their faces. Idk what it is about me finally seeing my babies face but that’s what does it for me. I look at their little body, their little face and am just glad that they came into the world safe and quick. I can’t say it was really magical for me or anything but I loved them right away :)

My SO and I both lost it and cried of happiness together. There is nothing that can prepare you for that moment.

It was... weird. Lol. 
Like, she came out and my first thought was, “what the heck am I going to do with a baby?” and then, “why are her lady parts so swollen?”

Honestly it was amazing. After being in labor for 7hr after that last push to when she was layed on my chest was everything . I just started crying  she was so warm and all I could think of was I’m actually someones mom now , like I actually just gave birth to another human being . 
After all that pain and horrible contractions were worth meeting her and it’s crazy how all that goes away right after they’re born . All I wanted to do was just hold her but they had to clean her up but after that I was trying to attempt on breastfeeding her sadly I couldn’t because I had to get stitched up and the doctor didn’t want me moving much . 
So I gave her to her father and just looking at them from across the room just melt my heart ❤️ he was so happy and excited talking to her as if she understands😂 I can never get that image out of my head . He just started taking pictures of the both of them and just had to announce it to the whole world that he just became a father to a beautiful Baby girl . 
That’s all we used to talk about , creating our own family and we wanted our first to be a girl and god blessed us with one and becoming her parents is the best thing that ever happened to us . 
She’s now 1 and unstoppable but I love that little girl with all my heart literally my best friend.
