Choosing not to go back to work... regret?

Question

Has anyone chosen not to go back to work and stay home with their baby and regretted it? 
I hear a lot of stories about people who regret going back and missing out on this time but I’m just wondering if anyone has ever regretted giving up their career. 
I love my job and it can be fairly flexible, it is just a lot of stress and I want to stay home with my baby! I’m just worried I will regret giving it up and not having an outlet for mental stimulation and communicating with adults regularly. 
We can afford for me to stay home but once I leave my position I will never get it back and it will be tough to get even close to where I am now after time away.

My plan is to go back when the kids are in school. I know it will be harder, but nobody is on their death bed thinking, “Good thing I went back to the office instead of seeing my babies grow.”

I left my career as a teacher when I gave birth and I do not regret it one bit. My husband and I had a long discussion and decided it would be best if I resigned and stayed home with our baby as opposed to hiring a nanny. We just could not stand the thought of a stranger caring for our baby girl. Luckily, my husband makes a lot of money so my little salary as a teacher was not missed at all. A few months ago, I started my very own business from home. I have an Education Consulting Business and I love being able to continue my career as an educator, but most of all, I love being able to stay home with my baby girl! I salute any mom who can go back to work after giving birth. I just could not handle the thought of leaving my baby girl and missing out on some things. She is nine months old now and I just could not imagine leaving her. She is growing and learning everyday and I am so BLESSED that I get to stay home and experience those milestones. We also have our little "mommy/daughter" dates at the zoo, aquarium, mall, museum, etc. I can't wait until she's old enough to go to the nail shop with mommy haha. I will never regret leaving my career to stay home with my daughter.

I don’t regret it. But I also wasn’t happy where I was working and it would be easy for me to start up my career again with a new company. Our LO is 14.5 months old. I stopped working at 8.5 months pregnant and haven’t returned. I started a part time job when baby was almost 8 months old but it’s just riding and training horses for a trainer. (I’ve competed in horse sports my whole life and this trainer offered me a job helping out). It’s very low pay and only 12 hours a week. For me it was about getting out of the house and getting a mental break. I don’t regret quitting my job one bit. I don’t miss it. I love being a stay at home mom and being able to raise my child myself. It would kill me emotionally to send him to daycare or just not be with him all the time. I want to restart my career when I’m done having kids and they’re old enough to go to school. Right now I cherish this time. I feel so fortunate to be able to stay home. I do feel that having something to do every week to get out is important, but I recommend looking into something part time down the road when you feel you need it. If it’s not about money, consider something enjoyable rather than a “career” for a while. That’s my best advice :)

Eh i wish I could have a more accurate response but I’m not working right now but going back to school this fall to finish my degree. It’s different from working because Ill get to be home more often. I would go back to work because my job isn’t where I want to be. If I were you and had got my self through hard work to an amazing position, I wouldn’t give it up. Your kid will know you love him/her. Children need to be a part of your life, not your whole life. But, I can be completely wrong and maybe staying at home will bring about a new level of happiness and learning for you as you get to daily raise a baby. It’s hard to say.

I got pregnant and stopped working. I don’t regret it. Lucky my SO can handle it with just his check. And I’m in college now. So I’ll be working when my son turns 2 years old

I went back to work and I don't regret it. I wish my maternity leave was a bit longer (17 weeks with my son), but now that he's almost two, he needs the socialization. And I love everything he learns in school. I still get lots of quality time with him, and my career has grown. I just had my daughter and daycare for both takes about half of my paycheck, but I think it's worth it, for our family.

I don’t miss it. My first daughter just turned 2 and she never took a bottle. So I never returned to work because of that. My April baby doesn’t take a bottle either.. 😕 I do miss a few hours to myself though, Lol but I don’t regret it. I’ve seen my daughter grow in 2 years and everything she’s learned is amazing.

I’m curious what responses you get. I’m planning to stay home within the next two years, once we’ve met our house down payment goal. We want to homeschool so it’s going to be helpful in that sense. I’ve gone back to work and it’s a constant struggle to balance home and work.
