What’s military life like??

Hi everyone! My boyfriend is going to be in going in the Army in 2 years (he’s in ROTC right now) and I’m just looking for advice and what military life is like. I’m really scared of the uncertainty of everything. We plan on getting married before so we can live together.

Don’t get married just to live together and for benefits. People do that all the time and it’s stupid. From what I’ve seen, it ends badly. Being married isn’t always easy, and adding the military to your life makes it even harder.

Listen to these ladies. Getting married just so you can live together is the worst thing you can do. You sound young so I suggest that you hold off on marriage until you are a bit older and can understand what that really means. Deployments, long hours, training away from home. None of that is worth it just for the "benefits".

The only advice I can give you is not to get married before just so you can live together. Two years sounds like such a long time but in the grand scheme of things it’s not. My husband and I got married after he was discharged but the time he was in we became so strong. You make the best of the time you get together and if you’re both committed it’ll work out in the end.

It’s just like life with any other job, except this job can send your spouse away for a year or more at a time. 
I honestly don’t understand why some view it as so hard. You somewhat know what you’re getting into. Field missions can take weeks, deployments. I’ve been through more than a few of both and I don’t view it as making my marriage any more or less difficult. I love my husband, he loves his job.

Personally, I really enjoy military life so far. My husband and I dated through college and married after he graduated and commissioned. We've moved pretty much from coast to coast twice within our first year of marriage and we're looking at doing it again in a few months. It's definitely very busy at this stage. He hasn't even deployed yet, but he's gone a lot. The Marine Corps is a little different from Army because they still have a ton of training after NROTC. He's been active duty over a year now and still has 6 months of schooling before he'll even be working in his actual MOS, whereas my in-law who did Army ROTC had specific MOS training right away then hit her actual job and my friend who did Air Force ROTC went straight to her actual job.  They are very busy and your SO will likely be working long days. It's what you make of it though. I love the community, the lifestyle, the resources. I've made some really great friends already. Marriage is challenging whether you're military or not. If you really love each other, you make it work. Learn to communicate very clearly, very quickly and don't play games. We can't read minds and neither can our husbands. The moving, making new friends, and being independent while he's gone is hard but can be fun if you keep a good attitude about it. well dont get married just for benefits because the benefits are good but not like stellar lol.. my husband is active duty army and his job is a normal 9-5. he has an hour and a half lunch. but he does have to go to PT at 5am. so he goes at 5am, comes back around 7:30 then we have breakfast and he goes to his job. as for his job, he has an office job as he is in the JAG corp.. he doesnt usually need to stay late or anything. so for the most part, this feels like a regular job but the only thing that sucked was basic training/ait. the life is not bad though, we live off post and I get to be a stay at home mom. just make sure you're budgeting a lot and avoid all debt at all costs. this includes car payment lol trust me we learned the hard way

It’s difficult and stressful. Weeks without talking only sending letters. My fiancé has been in the army for almost two years. He joined from nowhere. Did I wanted to quit? Yes. I wanted to give up our relationship but we have been dating for 4 years and we knew we were meant to be and we will get married one day. If you guys want to just get married to live together is a mistake. If you aren’t together for the long shot, don’t do something you might regret 🤷🏼‍♀️

Im kinda still new to the military life . My husband was in bootcamp (osut) for only 15 weeks and then he was done . Those weeks sucked since we had no communication besides writing letters to each other . But it definitely made our love stronger for one another . 
He is currently stationed at fort drum ny . We been here since may . So far its not bad , they havent been talking about deployments yet which is good . The military life isnt easy. 
It sucks when he gets calls he has to sleep in the woods for a week with his company or he has to do a month training in another state . 
We also have a daughter coming any day now and the military take very good care of you. 
When your married the benefits are good .
