Are the sleep sacs necessary?

Question

I see these sleep sac things everywhere and I never used one for my first, so I’m not sure if they are worth the money or not? If so is there a particular brand or style that you prefer or would recommend?

I suppose it depends on what your baby sleeps in and how cool you keep your house at night. We keep our house 67 degrees at night, which is comfortable under a blanket, but can be cold without one. Since it’s not recommended to give babies blankets anymore, sleep sacks are a safe alternative. We use the Woolino sleep sack because the wool and organic cotton are great for regulating body temperature so our son is never too hot or too cold. They’re also the softest wool sacks that I’ve been able to find and they have a nice weight to them. 
That being said, if your baby is comfortable at night and doesn’t seem to ever get cold then you don’t need to buy a sleep sack.

We still use a sleep sack with my 17 month old. I'm too nervous he will get a regular blanket over his head, plus he moves around so much I know he wouldn't keep covered with a blanket

So as someone who has nannies many toddlers, Sleep sacks are great for avoiding blankets being kicked off problem and are safer in general.        I have walked in on a 7 month old who pulled blanket over her head and was crying and had started turning color after the mum has put her down for a nap earlier and that scared the crap outta me. Parents who use blankets with babies under 1 give me anxiety when I babysit or nanny after that. So consider that too if you have someone watch your youngster, it might be nice to have sleep sack as option so they know your child will be safe.

We used the sleep sac with our son every night for bed and sometimes for naps too, depending how cool the house is. We’ve been using the carters ones that are sleeveless for the summer. During the winter we used to long sleeve fleece ones. We used them in addition to his long sleeve footie pjs. Don’t know if it’s necessary or not, but they work for us and we got a 2 pack of the sleeveless ones from amazon for like $10.

My son was a winter baby so he likes snuggling in his crib. We tried long pajamas with a blanket but he rolls too much and squirms a lot (like 360 degrees and puts his legs up the crib sides and all that) plus when he was younger than 5 months, he woke up at least 2-4 times a night to eat and change his diaper. Unzipping the pjs and changing him would wake him up but he would not go back to sleep after eating if his butt was wet so changing him was absolutely necessary. We switched to a long sleeve onesie and a sleep sack and he sleeps so much better. Our house is on 70 degrees and he wears a micro fleece sleep sack and snuggles up and passes out almost all night now only waking up once to eat. We have Halo sleep sacks.
