Car seat? Head tipping forward when sleeping.

Hi all, so my sons chin touches his chest sometimes when he falls into a deep sleep in the car seat. The chest clip is inline with his armpits and he’s in there tight. Is it normal for the head to be able to come forward and down like that? How is that safe in a crash? My son is almost 8 months and in a rear facing (obviously) britax b safe

Definitely make sure the base is level, you shouldn’t need a towel or pool noodle as the b-safe has a built in adjuster. 
That said even at the right angle this can happen, car seats are not specifically designed for sleep. Since you baby is older and presumably had decent head control you don’t need to worry to much. My son had the same seat and it happened occasionally. He would often correct it on his own.

Make sure the seat is reclined properly. If it has a level on the side make sure it's in the green range. A lot of carseats are made for flat seats so if yours has an incline you may need to use a pool noodle or rolled up towel to level it. 
Some fire stations can assess your carseat for free and fix it for you, so you can look into that.

But at this age if there are no health issues then he is actually ok to have his head like this. I would check on the install trough and the recline it’s at.

Sounds like it isn't reclined far enough. Be sure when you are evaluating the installation via the line that should be parallel to the ground or the bubble/ball that should be in a specific window that the car is parked on a flat surface. Also, check the manual, some seats allow a pool noodle to be placed in the crack of the seat during installation to provide a more adequate recline. If neither of those solves your problem, I would say that the seat just doesn't work with your car.  It might be time to look at a convertible seat with an adjustable recline, hopefully you will have better luck!
