At what point do you call it quits in a relationship?

kids should never ever be the reason you stay with someone. it isn't in your best interest and is certainly not in theirs. I was with my ex husband for 16 years and 3 children in before I called it quits. we .. or rather I .. had been trying to work it through for 5 years before eventually admitting defeat.
I tell you what - it was the best decision I made! kids are thriving, my ex and I are remarried and the four of us co parent far better than my ex and I parented through the 5 years we were trying to stick it all back together.

I would not have kids with a man that isn't 100% there, in the first place.
if my husband did a 180 for the worst and he became mentally or physically abusive, I would leave asap. if he started cussing at me and disrespecting me, I would leave asap. if he cheated on me , I would leave asap.
if he stopped helping around the house, i would sit him down and explain that he needs to contribute to household chores.  if he continued to not help, i would leave asap. better single mom and happy, than married and miserable. 
better single mom,  than having someone that mentally or physically abused me and my kids. I would not even flinch from selling the house and getting away from that, along with serving him with divorce papers.
thankfully my husband is by far one of the greatest and most caring,  most helpful,  most loving, most trustworthy and loyal men, I've ever met.

It's kinda hard to tell you with no context involved. But I definitely wouldn't say stay in an unhealthy relationship for the kids either. If you've tried everything to try and salvage and fix your relationship and that fails then maybe it is time to walk away. But if something can be solved and whatnot, then I'd stay.

When the relationship is unhealthy and both parties aren’t willing to make it healthy, when there isn’t mutual love ( like in love, not having love for..), when the relationship is abusive/toxic, when the people involved want different things and don’t want to compromise....  I think that’s it.  Any of those or combination of those.

happy, divorced parents are lightyears better for children to be around than miserable, married parents. there’s no denying that. 
for me to end a relationship, i would have to feel emotionally/verbally abused or that i’m being controlled/manipulated by my partner. i also would not stay with a cheater no matter what, or anyone who lied by habit. if a man ever hit me or physically harmed me i’d be outta there. and most importantly, if a man ever tried to change who i was to be what they wanted, i’d keep my dignity and find somebody else.
