Are birthing hips a thing?

I’ve always had wide hips, and now that I’m 23 weeks pregnant they’re extra wide 😅 but my boy is nuzzled between them and I’m still hardly showing. I’m wondering if this gives me any advantage in birth? Trying to prep and prime this figure for our important day 😂

Nah, unfortunately your hips don’t really translate to how big your pelvis is and how easy or not it will be for you to carry a child or give birth.

Lol.. my mom had told me this my whole life. (You know, what every 13 year old wants to hear)
I was having some issues during my labor and my midwife called in the on call OB-GYN to get his opinion and see if he thought I could continue or should move to c section. One of the first things he said when checking me out “She’s got a great pelvis, let’s keep giving it a try” lol
Baby came out through the great pelvis and his head also wasn’t very disfigured at all. So in my case, it kind of seemed like my birthing hips were a real thing.

My mom, myself, and all my sisters have wide hips. Only one of my sisters has gone through labor so far, (I’m next though! 😁) and unfortunately she had to have a c-section because her pelvis wasn’t wide enough for her daughter to fully descend into the birth canal. This definitely isn’t the case for every one, but it does prove that “birthing hips” are somewhat of a myth
