Exposing babies to heavy metal

My husband and I are very into heavy metal and frequently attend shows. We now have a 5 month old little boy and we haven't been out to a show in a good while. I've seen people bring their children to concerts and festivals with earplugs and I thought it was a nice way to share what you love with your child. So we made a plan to bring our son to a show in a few months. He will be 8 months old and if I feel like he won't be happy going with us, I'll have my mom watch him. But we have had some really negative opinions come to us from our families about bringing him. I should mention that we've gone to this same band before and it is a very mellow crowd, not dangerous and i will not be drinking if we bring him. So my question is what is your guys' opinions on exposing babies to not only the music but the environment as well?
