I was having a discussion with a group of people, some mothers, some dads, some soon to be parents, and others that aren’t parents, and we were discussing social media’s overall impact on mothers. Mostly the discussion was focusing on the negativity of it all.

While social media can be a wonderful resource for moms, it can also be such a source of negativity and hurt for them as well. I am honestly astounded by the lack of compassion and the judgment some mothers have towards other mothers. Why do some moms spend so much time shaming other moms for their personal decisions? Like what in all honesty does it do to benefit the mom that is shaming the other mom? When hiding behind a keyboard it’s so easy for people to be rude or hateful, essentially “keyboard warriors”. What mom gets bullied and shamed so much that she gives in to the agenda the bully is pushing.

Suddenly social media gives people the impression that their opinion on every other moms parenting decision is necessary.

We compare our parenting with others, most of the time we only see the positive that other moms are portraying.

I cannot believe how much negativity surrounds a parents personal decisions.

To breastfeed or formula feed, to circumcise or not, to vaccinate or not, to pierce a baby’s ears or not, to introduce solids earlier or later, epidural or no, etc.

I have literally never met a mother that has had her opinion changed because another mother called her an idiot for her choices. You can present facts but at the end of the day it is so important to understand and respect that if it’s not your kid, it’s not your decision to make. Understanding how to disagree respectfully is a lost art in our day and age.

We all love our kids to the moon and back, we all make decisions that we believe is best with the information we have at that time. We can have opinions and deliver them with respect. We can have facts and present them respectfully.

Being a mom can be hard you guys, a lot of moms need help and support. Life is way too short to be petty and worry about and fixate on what other moms are deciding for their little ones.

If your babies are fed, loved, and unharmed then you are doing great mama!
