Breast pump?

Hi mamas. I’m looking into breast pumps and have no idea what to get. I’m looking to breast feed and pump to supplement when I’m at work. I’ve heard great things about Medela but other than that I have no clue. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I had a Medela with my first and was quite satisfied. As others have said, check what your insurance covers. But here are a few other things you may want to think about regardless of brand:
Whatever you do, get a dual electric pump. Otherwise pumping at work will take twice as long and that will likely be frustrating. 
Think about your needs. Where will you pump? Do you need a pump that can be battery-operated or will you be fine with using an outlet each time?
Think about equipment. Is there a particular type of bottle you like, for example? I found it really useful to stick to one brand because you usually can’t mix them very well.

Call your insurance first and see what/if they offer anything! You might get one for free or reduced price. Otherwise, if your gonna pump a lot, make sure you get a medulla pump in style or similar level of pump (brand doesn’t matter too much as long as it’s not Uber cheapo)

I don’t have any brand recommendations, but if you live in the US contact your insurance because they are required to provide coverage for breast pumps and you can first find out what your coverage is, what it is, what it covers, etc. Some require a “prescription” from your doctor. But anyway, I would start there in case you want to take advantage of that to see if there are only certain brands they participate with for it. If you don’t live in the US then I’m no help at all, sorry 😂

I got the medela pump in style for free from my insurance with my last pregnancy (2017). It worked okay. I used the medela hospital grade one while my baby was in the nicu, and my work also provides them at the office. I liked that one better. I’ve heard you can rent them from the hospital so I might consider that this time around.

I just got the spectra s2 plus for free through my insurance via aeroflow breast pumps! They did all the work for me (verified with insurance, got prescription from dr, etc). It’s the one that was most recommended when I was looking into buying one! I’ve heard good things about it but I obviously haven’t gotten to use it yet lol. But definitely check with your insurance to see what they’ll cover! I had a bunch to choose from and got a $225 pump for free.
