African Print Prom Dress. Tacky?

Question. I am designing and getting an African print dress sewn. I've been told by certain ppl that oh "we know youre African. Wearing an African print dress is tacky and old fashioned. Just wear a nice regular dres..and so on" what do y'all think? Is it tacky? I was super into it. I wanted to stand out at my prom because I attend a private where in my grade of 90 kids there are only 6 black girls.

Wear it girl they don’t want you to celebrate your culture but you should be proud of us and where you come from. Get it girl and slay their lives. They don’t understand because a lot of times their culture isn’t stolen from them the way that POC has had theirs stolen. It’s not tacky it’s beautiful and something to be celebrated
