Is there really much of a difference between raising boys and girls?

My one year old daughter is very shy in groups, very observant and wants to watch everyone instead of play and is pretty independent. I just assumed this was her personality until someone explained that this was how girls act, while boys were more energetic and social at this age. Have other people found this to be true?

No just their personalities. My niece is wild and the craziest kid I’ve ever met.. my son is calm, laid back and shy.

My one year old is definitely outgoing, loud, not shy, does NOT care for authority. Dunno maybe that's just my crazy daughter 😭

I think it’s depends on the child. I have one daughter who is shy, reserved and will never do anything wrong on purpose and my 4 year old who is outgoing and loud. She will push her way to front of any situation. She hit all her physical milestones way before my other children. She says hello to everyone she meets, so does not care for authority and will tell anybody off. She was not an easy baby, she used to scream about literally anything. And my son, he goes with the flow, very chilled out baby. Not bothered by much. Happy sitting there playing with anything. He does not mind.

Our boy is very shy around people he doesn’t know. He’s 15 months old and has been like this since the beginning. He will actually cry if someone tries to touch him or pick him up until he warms up to them. Even to family he knows (but doesn’t see often). He’s extremely active and funny once he warms up but you have to give him time and let him come to you. He clings to me, my husband and his grandparents if anyone invades his space before he’s ready. After a half hour of just observing, he’ll start chatting and approaching people to play and converse. But we definitely consider him shy.

I don’t know if gender has anything to do with it.  I think it’s just different raising different kids period.

I have boy/girl twins. they've been together since day 1. My boy is more energetic but also timid in new situations. My girl I shy until she feels comfortable opening up. They are complete opposites but I don't think being shy has much to do with gender... it may be her "stranger danger" phase.

I think every kid is different & there will be some that fit into the stereotypical ways we think of girls or boys & some that don’t fit, I belong to a Moms group that started meeting when our babies were only a few weeks old, there are 6 boys & 3 girls, they range in age from 20 months to almost 18 months old now & they are all soooo different, in size, temperament, & when they hit milestones, some of the boys are quiet, little & shy & a couple of the girls (my daughter included) are big, loud, & gregarious, I have an almost 8 year old stepson (I met him when he was 3) & my husband notices differences between our daughter & his son @ this age but they may just be personality & have nothing to do w/ gender

I only have a boy but I can’t tell you I really think your friends wrong every person is a individual regardless of their gender and will all act differently

My son is more shy and observant. Also very independent. Hes honestly a pretty serious little boy to only be a year and four months, especially around unfamiliar people.
