Cosleeping and bed sharing / DockATot reviews?

Question

I swore up and down that I’d never bed-share. After 3 bassinets, a rock and play, a crib, swaddles, halo swaddles, and buying a bed for me to stay in for my boys nursery.. I’m not sure what else to do. He ONLY sleeps if he’s held or bed sharing. I stayed up all night and supervised my baby and husband bed sharing so they could get some rest, but I’m extremely tired and need sleep. I figure that bed sharing safely is safer than him falling asleep in my arms while I’m nursing in a chair or on the couch.

Questions for bed sharing:

If you bed share, what age did you start? My baby is 6 weeks and weighs 9lbs.

I would recommend the dockatot a thousand times over. We loved it. Our baby loved it. She slept with us for the first 6 months, we very easily transitioned her into her crib with the dockatot and took it out at 8 months and she was good. We even bought the bigger one for vacations. Will be using the dockatot again when we have our son in December.

the dock a tot is NOT safe for baby & neither is bed sharing but my baby was the same!! I bought the baby delight snuggle nest and she slept next to me and slept amazing! Good luck 🤗

Bed sharing IS safe if done correctly! No loose blankets or pillows (including sleep clothes), your hair should be tied up if long, baby to sleep on his back, no soft mattress toppers or anything like that. I co slept with my first until 11 months, from the time he was 2 months (he got super sick and after that wouldn't sleep alone). Also from time to time with my second but he was more independent. Lots of other countries practice safe co-sleeping, it's only in America that theres this huge idea it's a no no- and there is q higher rate of SIDS in the U.S.! Keep in mind that you won't neccessary get more sleep this way, as you tend to be more awake to monitor baby.

Get the dock a tot! My six week old only lasts so long in his pack and play bassinet in our room. Usually around 6a he’ll be fussy but I’ll put him on the floor in the dock a tot while I sleep on the couch and get in another 2 hours of sleep. And it’s great for naps during the day. It’s my favorite thing we’ve gotten for him hands down.

I bedshared from birth up until 13 months. I always put him on his back to sleep and no pillows around him and no blankets. I had blankets on myself but I didn’t put them above my breasts at all. I nursed him to sleep a lot and once he was done I put him on his back and gave him his paci. This worked great for my family. Not everyone will agree. We had a firm king size bed with fitted sheets and my husband slept on his end and I slept in the middle and our baby slept on the side of me and I never rolled over during the night. I was a light sleeper when my son was born. Prior to that I was a heavy sleeper. My mom instinct kicked in. My son now puts himself to sleep in his crib in his nursery. He is now 15 months old. Sometimes it takes longer and sometimes babies sleep in their crib from birth. Mine never did. Swaddling tightly helps but only until they can roll over or break out of it.

I don’t have experience with dockatot but I’ve had friends use and really like a couple of the Co sleepers with flexible sides like this one from target.

I started bed sharing at 4 months. He is a year now and still sleeps with us because he can climb out of his crib but isn’t ready for his own bed yet. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable bed sharing that young but you do what you gotta do! The dock a tot isn’t safe for unsupervised sleep though. But honestly at that age it’s super normal for them to not sleep consistently yet.

How about a cosleeper that sits directly at your bed, so you can reach but baby sleeps safe, with its own space? 
In Europe bedsharing is considered mostly very unsafe and I will not risk anything really but wanted baby to be close. So we bought this:

This is it standing in the nursery but basically the open side gets attached to parents bed and sits snug so you basically sleep next to your baby  it there is no risk of pillows or blankets etc.

We bed shared from night 1 using our SnuggleMe (smaller than dockatot so we liked it for newborn age) we’ll be upgrading to DockATot when he is 8 months and outgrows SnuggleMe.

I don’t have any experience with bed sharing, but we used a dock a tot in the bassinet part of the pack n play until my daughter got use to sleeping alone and started turning on her side and then did just the pack n play and it worked for us
