Pump before or after feeding?🤔

Is it smart to pump and then breastfeed right after? It seemed like my baby didn’t get much milk because I pumped most of it minutes before. I am a ftm so any advice on breastfeeding would help. Thanks!

lactation consultant, nurses and her pediatrician all told me to feed her first off both sides to her content then try to pump each breast for 10 to 15 minutes.

You won’t empty! If you’re full, yes it’ll flow faster. But imagine a pitcher of water constantly filling up. That’s what breastfeeding is. You won’t exactly empty out.

I pumped at the same time. So i would nurse baby on one side and use my pump on the other side, this helps stimulate letdowns and make your body think you’re feeding two babies at once so it makes more milk, once baby was done nursing I would also pump that side to get what was left and to stimulate my breasts to make more.

I pumped before, let LO nurse, then give her the milk I just pumped. It made my supply go up FAST. Instead of using the pump after nursing, I basicly used the hungry latch of my LO on my "depleted" breast to sent a stronger signal to the body to make more. I must add that I didnt do this every time (most of the time when she slept so I could pump just before I expected her to wake up), and I also didnt pump to make a stash or something.

I did after feeding, you let baby get as much as they need out of the boob and then pump whatever’s left out, that way there’s no risk of them not getting enough

I don't have any first hand experience, but I've always heard that you should pump right after feeding.
