Any moms Breastfeeding and supplements with formula?

How’s your baby doing? How old is your baby? How do u combined breastfeeding and supplements with formula? I want to do that, need advice please

I would get a referral to a lactation consultant before you try to supplement. Once we started supplementing with formula, everything went downhill with breast feeding. She got used to the fast flow of the bottle and got frustrated every time she would latch... crying and thrashing her head around. It completely killed my supply too. I tried to pump to keep my supply up and bottle feed expressed milk, but my boobs didn’t respond to the pump very well. We ended up having to go to all formula.

We have had to supplement from the beginning. First because of blood sugar issues and second cause of low milk supply. At first we supplemented with bottles but after a couple days switched to a SNS (supplemental nursing system). By using the SNS system you continue to stimulate your breasts and baby doesn’t get used to the fast flow of a bottle and no nipple confusion. At first it is really frustrating to use but it does get easier. The first week or so I wanted to throw it across the room. We just made our own vs buying the Medela one. But I highly recommend using the SNS system to supplement. If you have any questions about it let me know.

Yes! Baby is 2.5 weeks old and we supplemented the first week since he was almost 9 lbs when he  was born and hungry! 
Doctor said breastfeed 15 min a side and then syringe formula at first until milk comes in. 
Now my milk is in and I breastfeed during the day. He’s a good latcher after using the nipple shield. At night my husband takes a shift or two and he formula feeds with the bottle. Then I breastfeed during my shift. We haven’t had any problems 🤞🏻 I try to pump when I miss daytime feedings but it depends on how I’m feeling.

I did it for over a month, pumping around the clock every 2 hours. It’s doable with a support system. I would feed as much BM as I had in the fridge at any given time, rotating the containers oldest first. When he was hungry and we were out we would use formula. Not sure if thats the exact right way to do it but whatever. I would try the breast shield, feed when he was sleepy or not super hungry or he would get mad

It’s hard to keep your supply up with both. I started out supplementing but stopped after 2 weeks.
