Should I let my landlord evict her?
So I am severely allergic to nuts. I go into anaphylactic shock, but with certain nuts my reaction is delayed by about 20 minutes. My roommate (and friend) and I recently moved from the basement of the house we rent to the upstairs. We decided to get another roommate because upstairs is more expensive. And note that we told her before she signed the lease about my allergy.
Well the new girl moves in. I had put sticky notes around the kitchen identifying my spaces in the cupboards and fridge as my friend and I have always kept all my things completely separate so that there are never any mistakes with using nuts with my kitchen wear or dishes (I’m only allergic if I eat or touch a nut so my roommates are free to cook with them as long as it’s properly cleaned up and my things aren’t used). She was really offended over the sticky notes, saying I was being too particular. But my friend and I said these are the rules and she gave in.
I am NOT allergic to peanuts (they are legumes not nuts by the way). My new roommate saw me eating peanut butter last week and she never said anything to me.. My new roommate comes into the kitchen and sees me washing up my dinner stuff. She the says ‘so I guess you really aren’t that allergic you liar’. I freaked out thinking she’d tried to poison me or something (my dinner was my leftovers in the fridge). I just grabbed my epipen and called 911. Turns out she was only trying to catch me lying and she didn’t try to poison me as I found out after giving myself a dose of epinephrine, having my stomach pumped and being monitored in the ER for hours. I was terrified.
I’ve decided to move out because I’m not going to live with someone like this. I’ve found a new place and can move in August 1., I feel like it’s important for my safety and health. I can’t live with someone that would joke about this (and cost me thousands in medical bills). My landlord has told me I can leave, or she’ll give this girl 30 days to get out of the house (it would be legal to do so where I live especially since I have proof of her actions- my landlord is a real astute lawyer by the way so I trust her on this).
I just feel bad having her evicted when I have a place I can move into (she couldnt take it as it’s a family member of mine offering me their basement suit and they wouldn’t allow her after this). And I also feel safer leaving sooner rather than waiting a month. My friend wants me to agree because she doesn’t want to leave and I would love to stay with her too. What would you do? I just need some outside opinions here.
