Fluoride toothpaste for infants?

LOs ped said to start using fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of rice when rubbing or brushing his gums/teeth for 6 month old. Is fluoride safe for infants? Is toothpaste even safe or good at this age?

Our daughter is 2 years 5 months old and we still use fluoride free toothpaste for her. We probably won’t switch until she’s old enough to understand to spit out the toothpaste and not just swallow.

Not if your water has fluoride. You really don’t have to use toothpaste, you can use water on a baby brush, but if you do we have Jack and Jill toothpaste. All natural and great flavors. My 14 month old loves it. I’ve also heard Toms without fluoride is good.

Our pediatrician said the exact same thing. We just took our 10 month old to the dentist recently and he said toothpaste in general and actual brushing wasn't necessary until around age 3-4, though didn't outright say "stop doing that," only to make sure it was a TINY TINY TINY amount of toothpaste. He said until then all that's truly needed is wiping baby's teeth with a wet cloth after eating.
Dentist also mentioned that paired with fluoride in our water, baby was fine without it in toothpaste, but it's not enough either way to do any harm.

If your water doesn't have fluoride or you drink filtered or bottled water then you should be using fluoride toothpaste. The ADA and CDA currently recommend it to prevent tooth decay.

Not recommended until they are able to spit on there own . You should stick to water if yours contains fluoride. If not I would use the regular baby toothpaste that is safe if swallowed .
