I went to my regular OB appointment yesterday morning, and had an ultrasound and an NST. Dr had been saying I’d have to be induced by the 23rd (due Sept 4th) due to GD, but we did so well on our tests that he decided not to schedule an induction.

So of course as soon as I got home from work, my water broke!

Made it to triage by 7:30 pm, where I was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. I wasn’t having any contractions to speak of. Around midnight, they picked up, and we called the doula to come. At 2:30, I was 6cm. At 3:30, I wanted to get checked again to see how progress was going, and I was still at 6cm and baby was not well engaged. The doula had me sit on the ball which was super painful. I was upset about being in so much pain and only a 6 still, and I started hollering for medicine. The first couple times doula, husband, and mom said oh, let’s wait and see, but I finally convinced them I was serious, so somebody fetched the nurse, and she checked me again - maybe 3:38ish? She said I was now at 9 and could only have morphine, and my husband declined it because I don’t react well to morphine. I said maybe I can just have a little? And the nurse was all, ummm...

And then I started pushing, and everyone kept saying, stop pushing, you’re just going to tire yourself out! And I was yelling I can’t stop!! So she checked me again, and said oh, that’s a head!!

Baby was born at 3:44 this morning, a mere 14 minutes after I thought I was stuck at 6cm! We made it to 37 weeks by a few hours, so she’s officially not a preemie! 6lb 3 oz, and only 17.5”, we’re both doing great!
