Is the god parent suppose to be Christian?

My friend is having a baby and wants me to be the god parent but I’m Jewish and I just thought they were suppose to be Christian? She’s not super religious just wants her kid baptized? Idk is this normal

Is she Catholic? If they are then only one of the god parents have to be Catholic. I’m Catholic, my God father is atheist and it wasn’t an issue because my god mother is a confirmed Catholic. I’m not sure about other Christian denominations but the rules are probably similar.

Though it’s primarily a catholic tradition, I think it’s been absorbed by western people in general, so I don’t see any issue with it. Go for it.
