tips on getting baby to eat meat?

my 8 month old won't eat any meat.  he likes eggs,  but the only meat I've been able to get him to eat is little pieces of sliced deli turkey. I don't really like giving it to him as it's usually pretty high in sodium. I've tried several different chicken puree recipes and he HATES them,  he literally gags. anyone have suggestions or recipes to share?

My daughter wasn't interested in meat for a long while, until at least 1yo. I'd still offer if we had leftovers or if I was eating something. I think its a texture thing really. Now she's 19mo and obsessed wth meat. Any time she fights getting into her high chair, I ask if she wants a meatball 😂
But beans are a really wonderful source of protein (and iron and vitamins) too!

Meat isn’t necessary. My son never liked it so I kept on with it. He’s a vegetarian now...

My son is almost 2 and just now eating meat consistently.   Just make sure they're eating a well rounded diet and getting other forms of protein.

Our take-home packet from our 6 mo checkup recommended starting meat right away, which surprised me because I thought it was a later food. Things are always changing of course and now leading research encourages meat earlier for its essential iron, zinc and other nutrients. For my girl’s first meat, I cooked 1 lb ground turkey in a skillet with about a half cup of water covered for about 8 minutes, or until it was all cooked through. Adding the water keeps the meat from frying or browning, which can add a bit too much taste for little ones. (It’s like poaching.) I then pureed about a cup of turkey (saving the rest for tacos for us adults) in the blender, being sure to include some of the cooking liquid. She loves it! I froze it in silicon ice cube trays to use as needed. I think it’s best to use ground meats because they are easier to purée, plus easier to cook! Try adding your child’s favorite fruit or vegetable purée, like applesauce, pears, sweet potatoes or peas to help the taste if they don’t like it plain. Also, I would stay away from deli meats because of the sodium and processing, which can increase the chance of bacteria. If they really won’t do meat, find other sources for iron, like fortified cereals or dark green vegetables like spinach.

Sorry but why are you trying to force him to eat any meat? 8 month olds don't need to eat meat. If he keeps gagging he obviously doesn't like it and I don't blame him, meat purees are gross. Why don't you wait until he's older and can have small pieces of well seasoned meats?
