What age did you allow your daughter to start shaving her legs?

My step daughter has/had BLACK hair, about an inch long all over her legs, and she is almost 12. She came to me one day and asked if I would teach her how to shave because she wanted to feel normal. So I did. She immediately felt better and was no longer embarrassed to wear shorts or dresses, or trying to hide or wear tights under her clothes in 100°+ weather. 
About a week later, she went to her mom's for the weekend, and her bio mother noticed that she had shaved. She got mad at the child and said she wasn't old enough.
Mind you, this child does live with me and barely sees her mother because her mother has never wanted to care for the child. So my step daughter was unphased by that, and came home just to shave again.
Besides that, if I have a daughter, I will allow her to shave as soon as I start seeing hair that is noticable. We as adults are embarrassed by things like that, and kids are too.
I started shaving in 5th grade, around the time I started my period. And my step daughter just started hers last month.

I’ll let them shave when they ask, but I’ll let them know hair is a natural and beautiful thing, and they should only shave if it’s what they really want, not what they think they should do for others.

My mom never allowed me to shave or pluck my unibrow until I was 16 and in middle school I got teased and bullied for it. Whenever my daughters ask me I will let them. I know how it was and I don’t want my girls going through that.

Shaving in fifth grade when I got my period as well. Same as wearing a bra. I think that’s when people just start noticing things and getting embarrassed about those things.

I dont have a daughtor. But what my mom did with me was waited for me to ask. I was around 6th grade. My friends were all wearing bras and makeup(I asked for that too) and had cute underwear(dad didnt allow that) and shaving their legs for a couple years by that point. So i was getting self conscious about shorts in gym. Luckily i had thin blonde hair so i dont know that anybody but me even noticed. But i asked my mom if i can start shaving. She asked why(probably to make sure it wasnt for a boy at that age) and i explained i was starting to feel embarrassed. She grabbed a new razar out of her pack that night. Gave me a couple tips. Explained what to do. And sent me on my way. I liked the way she did it. I liked that it was MY decision.

......Why is the word allowed include? That’s such bullshit, lol. If a kid is nine and wants to shave because they’re uncomfortable for whatever reason, what does it matter? Shaving isn’t laser hair surgery.

I started shaving when I finished 5th grade. Some months after I started my period, that’s probably why my mom let me. I was 11.

Her age is fine. But IMO, you should have at least given her mother a heads up. I’m a stepdaughter and prefer my stepmom, but that doesn’t mean she has the right to make calls like this.
