Our creepy neighbor!!!! Advice?

Question

My boyfriend, our son, and I are staying at my boyfriends grandmas until our house is ready to move into. We’ve been here all summer and I’ve visited her house a lot before that and anytime i saw the neighbors son, he seemed pretty normal. He’s 21 and was in elementary school with my boyfriend and i guess he’s always been a pretty decent kid. Played sports, had friends, etc. He’s been back now since summer started but haven’t seen him much until a few weeks ago when I heard he lost his scholarship and kind of went off his rocker. He went missing for a day and police found him completely out of sorts trying to get onto a train I think. He went to a mental hospital and I’m not sure what happened there but ever since he got home he’s been making everyone extremely uncomfortable. He just walks around the townhouses in circles with sunglasses on all day long now even if it’s nighttime. He doesn’t say much but when you talk to him he acts odd but nice. Almost too nice. Sometimes he walks around acting very depressed and no sunglasses. I thought it was odd but We all keep brushing it off thinking maybe he’s on a new medication or something. Since my boyfriend has known him so long i just wasn’t freaked out and felt kind of bad for him going through this at only 21. Well tonight I was rocking my son to sleep on the back screened in porch and I could hear him laugh quietly a few times. I figured he was sitting in his porch just watching videos on his phone with his headphones in like I’ve seen him do before. Well finally I turned around and this kid is standing in the middle of his porch just staring at us!!!! I smiled thinking maybe he just stood up and looked over. Nope. He didn’t move. Just kept standing there staring with no expression. I turned away one more time and looked back he was still staring intently so I gathered our stuff and rushed inside. Am I being absolutely ridiculous or is this creepy as hell?!?! I don’t even feel safe here anymore and my boyfriend keeps telling me things like “relax he’s harmless” but that was just too far for me. I can ignore the endless walking in circles and the giggling and the sunglasses and the weird conversations but I can’t ignore my son and I being stared at like that. My boyfriend isn’t home from work until 12 tonight and I’m 100% not sleeping until then! What would you do in my situation?

It’s definitely creepy, but it sounds like the poor guy suffered a total mental break and hasn’t recovered yet.. I would talk to whoever else is in the house with him and let them know that you’re concerned.. he probably doesn’t mean any harm, but definitely needs some help.

It sounds like he might have a drug problem that’s causing him to have split personalities. There’s the happy guy with shades and the sad guy with no shades. I would take this seriously because people are capable of anything when they are on drugs and those are simply not the actions of one who is mentally ill. I’ve been around many people with mental disorders and the closet that comes to based of what you’re saying is schizophrenia. It could also be a mix of schizophrenia and drug abuse, drug abuse can case schizophrenia. I’ve also been around people on a variety of drugs and their personality shifts so drastically. Typically those with mental disorders show signs and it slowly appears but will always have signs. I’m thinking substance abuse because of how drastic his personality shifted and due to hour description of how he used to be. People that use drugs are capable of anything, they aren’t bad people but they simply become a completely different person when on drugs. Be cautious, stay safe, and emphasize your fears to your husband!

Uhmmm, talk to husband about having a different schedule so it isn't too predictable for people that are watching. If he is unable to, then, I would surely have my registered glock ready , IF he decides to act a fool. If you feel uncomfortable, I would surely take precautions before it comes down to using a weapon, such as an updated security system, door stoppers, and of course, a gun or a bat.

it sounds like he got schizophrenia or something, my neighbor was like that, she would walk around the neighborhood arguing with a green alien, she’s had the police called on her a few times but there’s really nothing they can do, and she’s never harmed anybody she just cussed and yells a lot
