too much formula?

my mother in law has my niece and she feeds her almost a 12.4 oz can of formula in 4 days. there is all that's left. is that bad? she's 5 months old.

Unless she is so overweight that her pedi is concerned, I wouldn’t worry about it. Before 6 months, formula and/or breastmilk is ALL a baby eats. They go through quite a bit.

I think that as long as baby was having the proper amount of formula in each bottle, then it’s nothing to be alarmed about. Babies tend to eat a lot during growth spurts and what not. I know that some people put extra formula in bottles, because they believe it will make the baby fuller, but it’s really not OK to do to do that because it can cause constipation… So as long as she wasn’t doing that, I think it’s fine.

As long as she’s getting between 24-32 oz of formula a day and the pediatrician is happy with the baby’s weight gain you should be good. My daughter goes through a 19 oz can every 4 - 5 days.

Our daughter would go through a lot when she had growth spurts. She’s almost 6 Months and we’re finally into puréed foods as well so it helps limit how much formula we go through
