Mirena Removal

Hi there,

I had my Mirena in for 8 months and had it removed three days ago.

I removed it due to 9kg of weight gain, constant need to wear a liner due to spotting/discharge and a foul smell. I’m wondering whether the smell is due to Bacterial vaginosis. I’ve discussed this with my doctor and we’ve sent through a urine sample (STD test for chlamydia?) even though this is incredibly unlikely as I’ve had the same partner, and we’ve both been tested 10 months ago and always have sex with a condom.

Has anyone had any similar experiences and does anyone know when the smell will go away!?

It’s not fishy, it’s almost like a cabbage like smell or a very exaggerated musty vaginal odour. It has caused me to have lots of insecurities. The smell is still there after removal but not as bad as I’m not having as much discharge. Showering makes no difference, the smell is always there. I recently got red/dark brown spotting just today and the odour is back.
