Take the second hand wedding band? Read first

Question

So not the most controversial topic in the world but would like to hear your opinions. 
Myself and partner are planning to get married next year (just saving for an engagement ring). My grandmother was going through some old jewellery and found wedding bands from my great gran who left them when she died. They’re not my great grans, she has no idea where they’re from. 
One of the bands is the exact one that I would choose for myself when the time comes to buy our bands. My Grandmother said “you can’t take that, it’s weird when you don’t know where it came from”. She doesn’t want them and they have no sentimental or monetary value. 
My attitude is I’m saving money? 
Is it strange to take the ring? Should it be something you pick out as a couple together as a matching set?

It's just a ring. And if it's like one you would already get, why not use it. Save money. I don't believe in all that crap about objects holding energy and what not. It's a piece of metal for crying out loud. I'm not big on Jewelry at all haha so it amazes me how much people spend for something that just sits on your finger hahaha.

My wedding band belonged to my great grandmother! Even if you're not sure whose it was it's still likely from someone in your family. And if you like it, why not? It's a cute story too!

So....my boyfriend and I have discussed marriage and getting engaged. Seriously discussed. We are both pretty rational people who like the weigh these things out and talk about them well in advance. He and his family have been through a LOT in the last 5 years. Before me, he and his ex had been together for 10 years, he helped raise her kids as his own, and his dad was a jeweler. He and his dad always struggled to bond, but had an amazing bonding dad when my boyfriend decided to propose to his ex. Not months after, his grandmother lost control of vehicle with mom in it...and his mom died, prosecutors attempt to charge grandmother with vehicular manslaughter, and 8 days later dad died. 2 months after that, he catches his ex literally in bed with another man. Come to find out there had been MANY men. When he and I started getting to that point of discussing marriage, he cautiously asked how I would feel about him using the ring he and his dad picked out. It holds no emotional memories for him in regards to his ex...she didnt even like it. But for him...it was the last time he and his dad ever felt close. He explained that he hates that I will never meet his folks, but that using that ring would help him to feel that his folks are a part of all of it, and a representation of family continuing on. I know many would balk at this idea, but I love the reasoning behind it, and I am honored that he feels so strongly about me to think that his dad would approve.

Eh I’m a little superstitious so I would sage the shit out of the rings before I ever wore them to wart off any negative energy. But I don’t think it’s a huge deal especially if you don’t think it’s a huge deal who cares .

If its the ring you love, take it! If you're religious or superstitious over it, have them blessed or prayed over or annointed or something.

I would take it!! It’s just a ring. There’s no rule around who picks out what and you don’t have to match. I got my band off Etsy and sent my husband to the mall to buy his. If you are worried about bad juju you could always have them both melted down to make two new rings.
