Stressed about family in college

I'm trying to plan ahead for breaks, I don't get along well with my mom and i had plan to not cone back during breaks from college. A friend of mine told to think about the bigger picture when I stated I would go to my finacee's parents house for each break and not come home. If nesscarry we planned on paying them rent if they wouldn't let us stay for free. I love my mom but she isn't the best person to be around and at 18 is still trying or is controlling some things in mt life that should be my decision, college was my ticket of here but now I'm stressing think will I have to be around more than I wanted to. Can anyone offer suggestions on what to do?
