Emma’s story 3 months later

At 37 weeks I had to travel 4 hours from my home to stay with a family member to wait for my baby girl to be born because the hospital in my home town is not equipped for emergencies and they are to small to deliver babies. It wasn’t fun being away from my home and my SO. At 37+4 I started having back pain more on my tailbone than anything. At 38 weeks it got so bad I went to the perinatal unit to see what was wrong.. I was told it was normal and to take a Tylenol and go home. I got to 39 weeks and it became so bad I needed to go into emerg this time. I was told I have an infection on my tail bone and I was to take antibiotics and it would clear up within 24-48 hours. Two days later I wasn’t sleeping it was so bad.. felt better when I took Tylenol but it was still so bad I wasn’t able to sit. I went back in again because it was only getting worse. It started to swell and become red. I had a feeling it was an abscess from the beginning and I told the two previous doctors that but no one listened and sure enough when I went in for the third time it was a huge abscess that needed to be drained and the doctor I saw couldn’t do it so I got sent to a different hospital about an hour away to get it drained. I waited 4 maybe 5 hours in the waiting room before the doctor made it to me. By that time is was midnight and I was finally getting frozen to get it drained. GOD DID THAY EVER HURT! I swear those needles hurt more than contractions did lol. I finally got back to my aunties house around 3 a.m. I slept all day the next day...finally. I started to feel some belly and back pains so I went in for my weekly check up with my doc because he told me I would get a membrane sweep at this appt. when I got to his clinic they said he was on vacation so I was to see his partner.. well his partner was a very rude woman who treated me like a was a child. I asked about the membrane sweep and she told me she doesn’t believe in pushing the process faster. I got a little frustrated at this point.. I stayed calm and collected but I was firm with her that I wanted it done. She left the room and I could hear her and the secretary making fun of me. What women who is almost 40 weeks pregnant wouldn’t be hurt and mad at this point. So I left crying. Finally at 39+6 I started having full on contractions I went back for another appt and finally seen my own doctor who said I was only 1/2 centimetre dilated. The contractions only got stronger and stronger. This lasted 2 days and I still had only got to 1 centimetre. I was put on an oxytocin drip at this point. My water broke about 3 or 4 hours after being on the drip but I was still only 1 centimetre dilated. My baby girls heart rate was dropping every time I was a contracting so they stopped the drip to see if I would progress on my own.. which wasn’t happening! I finally got an epidural after 48 hours of full on labour. Her heart rate was still dropping so the decision to for a cesarean section was made at around 8 pm. I went in at 8:30 pm and the epidural wasn’t working and I wasn’t numbing properly for the c section so they had to put me out and my SO couldn’t come in the room and had to wait in the hospital room. Our baby girl born at 10:50 pm went straight to my SO while I was in the recover room for two hours.

She’s not 2 months and 29 days
