Mental Illness in Islam

Saiathff

Hey ladies! 👋🏾👸🏼

Alhamdulillah, less than two years ago I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I briefly left work for a couple months while adjusting to medication. After taking the medication for less than a year I stopped. I thought I was better. I went back to the doctors beginning of this year, and we had to change my medicine a few times.

I felt like I was doing good, I felt happy and then a month ago I just took a nose dive. The medication isn’t enough, so it’ll need to be adjusted again.

I’ve been missing a lot of time from work because of this - the medicine and the side effects of bipolar.

My question is: Where does mental illness fall in Islam? Do you acknowledge it for what it is? Do you think it’s a Jinn? What do you think? And had mental illness affected you and your connection to Allah? Let me know 😁

I want to know what you all think because

1) I’m curious about most everything and

2) my boyfriend sometimes thinks that depression and maybe even bipolar doesn’t need medication (short or long term).

(Really I just am curious if people (bf included) think it’s dramatic to miss work so much from something that isn’t plain to the eyes.

As always.. Thank you, Sisters ❤️
