Anyone work in the optometry field?

My son’s eye doctor’s office has two doctors. Last year the one doctor said his prescription is “as needed”. This year the other doctor said his prescription hasn’t changed much, but it’s absolutely a “full time” prescription. So which is it?

He has a vision issue (myopia?), and it’s a full-time prescription. That doesn’t mean he needs glasses full time. It’s single vision, so it looks like he’s farsighted and nay need glasses to see objects at a distance. The optometrist really should explain all of this to you and let you know when corrective eyewear should be worn (e.g., at school, while watching tv, etc.).

This is a similar prescription to my fiancé’s. He doesn’t wear his glasses all the time but he also can’t really see like he should because he doesn’t wear his glasses. 
I’d say wear the glasses; they could have eye strain or headaches. It’s like preferring to watch a fuzz TV rather than a brand new 4K TV. There’s an improvement in the quality of life, IMO.

When my daughter started wearing glasses the Dr said they were as needed but also said that the more she strains her eyes while doing things it will begin to hurt her eyes more. So she recommended that she wear them all the time, because watching tv, reading, drawing/coloring, anything like that, if they do without the glasses it cam strain the eyes.
