What’s the best way to give birth?

As a first time mom (24 weeks along), I have no idea what I should consider – why I should choose what, and what’s realistic. It’s a bonus if I do the least harm to my body, but giving a quick and harmless birth to my baby is no. 1 prior.

A water birth if it’s available. Moving around, squatting on the toilet, being on all 4s. Avoiding interventions 👌 we’re not made to have babies lying on our backs, gravity doesn’t work that way and it slows the process down.

I had epidural and loved it layed on my back only was in active labor for 33 minutes (i have fast labor) but it was the most comfy and felt normal for me and epidural was my life saver for pain

There isn’t a single “best” way to do it across the board; every woman is different, with different things she prioritizes, and different circumstances entirely. I mean it’s up to baby really. People go in having these extensive plans as to what they think they want and all goes to shit once they’re actually in it and realize how much pain they’re in.  I went in with no expectations the first time around, ended up getting induced at 42 weeks a few things came up during labour but nothing major, had to get an epidural at 8pm, was the best thing I ever did and only wish I had got one sooner. 
This time around I’m hoping to go into labour naturally without being induced just to see the difference but I am going into it without any expectations only this time I know I want the epidural. So I’m hoping that I can do that ASAP since I didn’t even progress until after getting it with my first. No L&D story is the same, I’m just gonna go with it and let the doctors and nurses and baby do their jobs and do my best to roll with it. Its hard to not know how things will go or what to expect but the less you expect the better in my opinion.

I’m personally aiming to try a tub birth (our women’s hospital has tubs in the rooms). I’ve done a lot of reading on how it helps the woman’s body relax which causes less chance of tearing and a more calming birth for baby.
