Last ultrasound was at 6 weeks. 13 weeks now went to appointment thinking id have another scan and she said not until 20 weeks and then ill find out the gender then and thats the only way how. WHAT!? Isnt this around the time people start finding oit the genders around 13-15 weeks? Not 20?!! Im so pissed. Cant find out through blood test either apparently. I also live overseas so i cant switch obs🙄

that's normal. usually you have your first scan around 6-8 weeks, that's the dating scan. 
then you have anatomy scan around 19-20 weeks. 
usually after that you are done with ultrasounds.

You could order and do the sneakpeak test yourself for gender since you have to wait so long. If that’s an option outside of the US that is.

The only, yes I only had 1, ultrasound with my daughter was at 20 weeks. I think it’s pretty normal if you are healthy and youngish. 
I’m 40 with this little and I’ve already had 3 from my doctor (12w 5 d). 
We didn’t/don’t want to know the gender though so it was not a big deal for me. If you want to know I vote private scan! 🙌

In the UK it is scan at 12 weeks initially and then one at 20 where you can find out the gender if you wish.....no option for blood test either. I guess you could pay for a private one but I have never looked at it as don’t want to know! Not having a scan sounds very frustrating! What country are you in?!

My clinic does anatomy scan only at 20w and a dating scan around 8w ONLY for women with irregular periods. It totally is based on the dr/clinic and there isn't a "normal" schedule to follow. I've had 2 early ultrasounds due to bleeding and I wont have another til 20w. It may depend on billing or insurance as well.

Around 12 weeks is usually when they do a scan to check for abnormalities, sometimes the tech can see the baby’s genitalia but won’t confirm it usually.

My doctor does one at 12 and one at 20 (where they find out gender, but the scan isn’t specifically for that). She did say that if you have a scan done earlier than 12 weeks for some reason, she usually skips the 12 week.

Most people get the 20 week gender scan. As others have said people who get an earlier gender scan are paying out of pocket and going to a boutique ultrasound place. The 12-13 week scans are Nuchal translucency scans to assess risk of Down syndrome and other genetic things but they’re also not required nor does every office do it or ask if you want to. I got my dating scan and next scan through ob is 20 weeks. I am doing a private scan at 16 though. It’s about $100 out of pocket.

I guess it depends where you are? I thought the 12/13 week scan everyone got and was for the Nuchal Translucency scan and to measure the baby to ensure they are developing ok, not for gender. I’m in Aus tho 🤷🏻‍♀️

No, 20 weeks is the anatomy ultrasound and when they’ll tell you the gender if they can see. Some people book private ultrasounds for 15 weeks but that’s usually considered the earliest to tell gender on an ultrasound. I have seen people on here get guesses earlier but I’m not sure why or how, maybe some hospitals are looser on that. If you get the nuchal translucency testing (NT) one of the screenings for Down’s syndrome then you’ll have a scan around 12 weeks.
