I like the Irish name Aoife but do you think it’s too out there?
My wee boy is called Kian and I think they will go ok together. 
What do you gals think?

It’s a traditional Irish name so I wouldn’t call it out there just different in the US. You WILL have to explain it a lot and people will never get it right the first time. That doesn’t bother me though so 🤷🏼‍♀️

I find traditional Irish names particularly hard to sound out as an American, but I LOVE the sound of it now that I know! 
She will struggle on the first day every school year, at Starbucks, doctors offices, etc but my girl has an unusual name and she’s only 5 and already super confident correcting people so with the right personality, that’s no real issue.

I love Aoife, but half my family are Irish so it’s not something that people would mix up in my family but other places may not.
But saying that, having a name that’s different isn’t all bad and it may become more known if people have children with names less common around more often.

Do you live in America? If you live in or near a big city, I think you’d be fine. Most cities have lots of people with Irish heritage and lots of people use the more difficult to pronounce Irish names. I live in Chicago and this is a name you see with some regularity. Most people I know can pronounce it, or at the very least, recognize it as an Irish name that is not pronounced phonetically, and would ask how to pronounce it.
