Cloth Diapering a Newborn?

Question

Any tips for using cloth right from the start? Everyone is telling me to use disposable in the beginning and then switch in a month or two. I would prefer to only use cloth if I can.

I did cloth from 6 days. Covers and prefolds worked amazingly well for us. It’s the cheapest way to cd and you only need about 6 covers to get started! Flour sack towels are also a great nb option with a cover!

There is no reason to use disposables from the start if you want to cloth diaper. Just make sure you have a good stash ready so you don’t get stressed out:)

We used flats and covers on our baby since she was four days old ( we waited for her cord to come off and the meconium to pass). She was 7lb6 and the newborn sized covers fit fine. She is now 20 weeks and we still use the same newborn covers plus some one size covers. We love cloth! X

We used cloth diapers from day 1. We had prefolds/covers, and AIOs. I definitely recommend prefolds. AIOs aren’t worth the price for newborn diapers, because it’s true that babies out-wet the absorbency before they outgrow the diaper itself. To his surprise, my husband was sold on cloth diapers a week or so into the newborn cloth diapering because he thought it was way more convenient and cost-effective than buying disposables for that stage. Our little one would frequently poop right after a new diaper was put on (and sometimes before we could even finish putting a new diaper on her). He said it would have driven him crazy to throw out so many disposables  Instead we just did a load of wash and more diapers were ready to go. We never had leaks or blowouts with the prefolds.
Also, the one size diapers did not fit our baby at 8lbs like they claimed. It was more like 10lbs.

I really wanted to cloth diaper my newborn but my newborn stash was too big for him I had to wait until he was about 8 lb because he was so thin when he was born I just use disposables because I didn't want to go out and buy more diapers

I used BabeeGreens newborn fitteds with one BabeeGreens cashmere cover (size S), one Ruskovilla wool shorty, and a Disana woolie. They were awesome.

I bought a newborn stash. I have a lot of Green Mountain workhorses which are pretty cheap and Tots Bots newborn which are just like a disposable.

We did cloth (prefolds and covers) on our newborn. She was so tiny we went out and bought some preemie sizes too. The cost was probably the same as it would have been for the disposables, but we wanted cloth.

I did prefolds with covers I made myself from the babyville pattern, only altered. I used newborn and then size 1 osocozy prefolds. We still use them as easy to grab burp cloths as they are so absorbent! My little guy fits his one sized pocket diapers now. I'll keep the prefolds around as they can be used as inserts later on,  too.

I did a newborn AIO rental. I was disappointed with the absorbency. LO fit into OS around 7 weeks. She was 7.5 lbs at birth. Next time we’ll do prefolds during the day and fitteds overnight.
