Crib Mobiles?

Question

What is everyone’s thoughts on crib mobiles? I’ve always known them to be safe but as of recently have read differently?  
Do you have one/ are getting one? 
If not, what are some alternatives for soothing/ helping baby fall asleep in their crib?

It’s a waste. And it’s a stimulant, so it’s for awake time not bedtime.

We never used one. They can be super distracting to a baby trying to sleep.

Didn’t get one because I chose to let my baby sleep in the dark so there wasn’t much point to one. He uses a fan for white noise.

We didn’t get one because he’s not going to be in his crib much before he’s at least 6 months old, so I figured we wouldn’t use it much if at all.

As I understand it they are safe until they are sitting up. Then they could reach the mobile and pull it down. I've never used a mobile for any of my 3 though except for the newborn stage so I could run to restroom. There are other ways of teaching them to self soothe but they have to be old enough to be able to teach them. I slept trained my babies once they became of age. You can also use a sound machine. Those are great.

I had one and then a sleep trainer told me that lights are not good for helping baby sleep, and if baby becomes dependent on stimuli to sleep then when they wake during the night they will have a hard time learning to go back to sleep on their own. We got rid of it and he slept better.
