IUD insertion at the hospital.... WHAT!?

My doctor keeps asking me if I want another IUD, that they will put one in after I give birth. I plan on naturally delivering so that means it will not be numb up there... The thought of someone inserting anything in to my poor beaten up vagina scares the crap out of me. She assures me I wouldn't even realize it was happening. Has anyone heard of this craziness?!

Yeah my doctor asked if I would like them to place the IUD after birth. I guess the risks of it falling out and/or moving out of place are much higher. I've decided to wait until I'm more healed up there. I wont be having sex for a while anyways so I dont "need" birth control until the doc clears me for it.

I can tell you having one put into a non-dilated cervix hurts like a mother fucker so if I was a candidate, i'd do it at birth. I'd assume there is a risk of rejection though? I've never heard of this.

My office won’t even let you do an IUD insertion until you’re at least 3 months post partum. My dr said it gives your uterus some time to get back to normal standing and your cervix isn’t closed all the way either. After my first i got the IUD again and i was exactly 3 months post and still didn’t feel a thing!

I was told I couldn't have my coil put back in for 3 months after birth as the uterus needs to go back to its normal size and risks embedding if done when the uterus is still stretched x

If you have to wait 6 weeks to have sex or even get your tubes tied you should have to wait to get an IUD.
I know I had to wait after I had my son.

My doctor offers this as well. I declined as our plan is tubal ligation if I have a c-section or if I delivery vaginally my husband will be getting a vasectomy.

I mean logically speaking it wouldn’t hurt because your cervix would be so open it would easily go in but logically speaking that thing could easily fall out or embed in the wrong place for the same reasons. My ob won’t do mine until the earliest is 6 weeks post delivery.

I had an issue with my placenta after the birth of my first so he had to literally go in and get it out with his hand. I was so focused on my daughter that I didn’t even notice. I think you’re doctor is right, it won’t be a big deal.

If you go natural, I think you would already be in so much pain you wouldn't feel it. But I'm not sure as I've never had any kind of birth control. Maybe wait until your 6 week check up?
