Heavy period, day 8

So my period was 4 days early this cycle, and from day 4 thru now (day 8) I have been bleeding crazy heavily (like soaking super tampons after 2 hours at most). Some clots, but not much cramping at all. My typical cycle is about 6 days, with day 1.5-3 being the heaviest. Never this heavy for longer than a day.

Last month's cycle was slightly late (day 29, typically day 27), lasted 7 days and was very light. I'm also almost positive I did not ovulate last cycle. Could it be that I didn't shed enough last cycle and now I'm shedding it all and then some? I'm thinking hormone imbalance? I'm calling my midwife tomorrow but wanted to know if any of you have experienced this or could offer some piece of mind!! Tia!
